--The Celtics' summer of celebration took an unwanted turn when Paul Pierce was stopped in Las Vegas for driving erratically recently. The MVP of the Finals was handcuffed for a short while but was ultimately not cited.
According to the report in a Vegas newspaper, Pierce was pulled over for driving erratically on the Vegas Strip. He was said to be initially uncooperative and was placed in handcuffs for about 15 minutes until he calmed down. "We find this happens a lot of times," said public information officer Bill Cassell. "Someone is a little agitated, and when they're placed in handcuffs, they rethink things."
Pierce took a Breathalyzer test and registered below the .08 legal level for intoxication. Still, he left his car near the scene and took alternate transportation.
--The Celtics did not take part in a summer league this year. They had participated in the Las Vegas event since its inception but chose not to this year because of a lack of young players.
At the time of the league, just Glen Davis and Gabe Pruitt would have been in line to play based on youth and relative lack of playing time. Second round pick Bill Walker was undergoing knee surgery, and first round pick J.R. Giddens wasn't signed.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We're always looking for ways to improve." -- Danny Ainge, when asked if he's done tweaking the Celtics' roster.
