--The Celtics are hoping for big things from Tony Allen, whom they re-signed as a free agent after failing to give him a qualifying offer -- thus allowing him to be unrestricted.
"By the end of the year, he turned the corner," Ainge said. "Doc (Rivers) and I think he will have a breakout year this year. "He has been our best perimeter defender the last few years, when he got a chance to play. He's a guy the coaches and his teammates trust as a perimeter defender. He is also one of the toughest guys we have on the team, he's an instigator physically. He's an aggressive, attacking offensive player we really didn't have."
--The Celtics finally got around to signing first round draft pick J.R. Giddens. They waited until getting their free agent work in order before getting Giddens' final numbers on the book. Depending on how quickly he picks up the schemes on both offense and defense, Giddens could get playing time as a rookie.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "This is something that could work out well for both of us." -- General manager Danny Ainge, on the signing of F Darius Miles.
