Boston Celtics Notes, Quotes 2009-10-31

Boston Celtics Notes, Quotes 2009-10-31--The Celtics altered their position on F Glen Davis a bit, announcing they were canceling his suspension and fining him an undisclosed amount instead for his off-court fight. But the financial penalty doesn't sit well with C Kendrick Perkins.

"I don't like that," he said. "It's done with. You don't have to go there. I know it wasn't the smartest thing, but at the same time we can't keep pounding on him about it. We've got to be in his corner. I'm sure 'Baby' feels bad enough without them suspending him and taking his money.

"I don't think we should cry over spilled milk. It's happened; it's done with. What we've got to do is be with 'Baby'. Things happen in life. He's going to get a lot of pressure about this. I just think his teammates and the organization needs to be more behind him."

--Tyronn Lue has made the Celtics, but not in the role he'd hoped. There was some disagreement in Celtics management ranks last summer, when some wanted to sign the 11-year veteran point guard as a free agent. Eventually the club gave the last remaining roster spot to second round draft pick Lester Hudson.

But just before the season, Lue was announced as the new director of basketball development. He will be an assistant coach of sorts, with his role becoming more clear as he continues to work with the club.

At 32, Lue clearly can still play, but he said he has no problem retiring from active duty. That could obviously change if the Celtics have injury problems in their backcourt or find, as they have the past two seasons, that they want to add a veteran who is a traditional point guard.

"If I wasn't going to play here, then I wasn't going to play," said Lue. "I've been sitting on this (offer from the Celtics) for about a month. I was going to just take some time off, but once you get away it can be hard to get back in. This is a great situation for me."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "That was beautiful to watch, man. (Those) two caught fire." -- F Kevin Garnett on Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, who combined to hit 15 of 21 shots.
