--A race between G Rajon Rondo and Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson for $2,000? That's the buzz around the Celtics. Johnson is a friend of G/F Marquis Daniels from their days back home in Orlando, and Daniels allegedly passed on the challenge from Rondo. "That's easy money," wrote Johnson on Twitter.
Rondo denied knowledge of the situation, but Ray Allen believes it.
"It's a good question," he said. "If they can get (referee) Dick Bavetta in a footrace against Charles Barkley, then why not this? They should make it an event for All-Star Weekend."
Daniels may root for Rondo, but he'd be picking Johnson.
"Rondo's fast, but this time it would be a race between fast and lightning," he said. "I love Rondo, but Chris Johnson is as fast as ever."
--San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich still doesn't like the fact that the Celtics refer to themselves as World Champions for winning the 2007-08 title.
"Arrogant, don't you think?" Popovich said. "We were never world champions. NBA champions. Don't remember playing anybody from another country and declaring victory in the world. NBA champions is accurate, and what else do you want to be besides accurate and truthful in what you do?
"World champions. It sends the wrong message. I don't know if it's a marketing thing, stubbornness, arrogance or hubris. I was very thrilled to be a part of an NBA championship team."
