--Assistant coach Tom Thibodeau interviewed for the head coaching position with Philadelphia and also was on the short list in Sacramento.
Coach Doc Rivers would like both Thibodeau and another assistant, Armond Hill, to get opportunities. "I'm open," said Rivers. "I told GMs to call. I thought they both should have been considered last year. I think Thibs and Armond are both head coaches."
--Doc Rivers addressed the opinion among some that Kevin Garnett should have tried to play in the postseason.
"All I'll say about that is that he kept working every day behind the scenes, and each time it got better it would (get inflamed) and get worse," he said of Garnett's right knee. "Kevin worked his (butt) off more than people know. I coached Grant Hill, and I never saw a guy work so hard and never be able to play. All that people saw was him in a suit and tie, and that became their image. They didn't see the sweat and the pain he went through. We went through four months straight (in Orlando) where I didn't know if he would play. Every night I had to go into the game with two different lineups."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "The next day is the toughest day when you lose. I had the coaches in my office and it was like, 'Well, what do we do now?'" -- Coach Doc Rivers.
