DRAFT PICKS:
J.R. Giddens, G, 6-5, New Mexico -- Celtics like him for his defense and athleticism. Bill Walker, F, 6-6, Kansas State -- May be a diamond in the rough if his knee problems are solved. Acquired in draft night deal from Washington for cash.
Semih Erden, C, 6-11, Turkey -- Tough inside player who has one year left on his Turkish League contract. A pick for the future.
PLAYER NOTES:
--The Celtics have 16 players in camp, and it will be interesting to see what they do if F Darius Miles proves worthy of a place on the club. Assuming G Sam Cassell sticks and the Celts still want to work with G Gabe Pruitt, they may have to let F Brian Scalabrine go.
--F Paul Pierce brought the championship trophy to the New Kids on the Block concert at the Garden. New Kid Donnie Wahlberg is one of the bigger Celtics fans, catching a number of games on the road even when the club was awful.
--C Patrick O'Bryant is taking good advantage of his work with the first unit in Perkins' absence.
--G Tony Allen is finally playing without a knee brace. He had surgery the season before last and struggled at times last year. With James Posey gone, he's being counted on.
