PLAYER NOTES: --G Sam Cassell joined rookies Bill Walker and J.R. Giddens on the inactive roster for opening night. Cassell didn't play a minute during the preseason.
--C Leon Powe stepped in well to the backup center role vacated by P.J. Brown. Powe had 13 points in 23 minutes, hitting five of his seven shots from the floor.
--G Tony Allen was a bit out of control at times in the opener, but he had 11 points off the pine in 17 minutes. Important, too, was that he got to the line for four free throws, two of them coming after made drives.
