MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: F Paul Pierce didn't have his best playoff run, but he led the team in scoring and steals and proved willing to sacrifice his own offense to allow the development of Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins.
MOST DISAPPOINTING PLAYER: G Tony Allen. A thumb injury cost him some games, but the fact he never stepped into a key role off the bench made the Celts look bad for their decision to let James Posey go. FREE AGENT FOCUS: The Celts will tender F Glen Davis the qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. The club will hope no other team steps up with a big offer.
In that F Leon Powe won't be able to play until next All-Star break at the earliest (ACL surgery), the Celts might take their chances and let him become an unrestricted free agent.
The C's have interest in bringing G Stephon Marbury back, but he wants bigger money and a bigger role.
C Mikki Moore's second go-round in Boston might be over.
PLAYER NEWS:
--F Paul Pierce said he has no plans for offseason surgery. Coach Doc Rivers tried to help him out by saying he was suffering from bone spurs in his ankles, but team sources said the problem wasn't big enough to require a procedure.
--C Kendrick Perkins left the season with a sore left shoulder for the second straight year. But this time he doesn't plan on surgery.
"I think I'll be all right with a couple of months off," he said.
--F Brian Scalabrine has one year left on his contract, but the Celtics won't be offering him an extension. Considering the concussion problems Scalabrine had this season, the club is interested to see how he comes back next year.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--F Leon Powe (left ACL surgery) will continue to rehab with the Celtics unless they elect to let him be an unrestricted free agent.
--F Kevin Garnett (right knee) had bone spurs removed when he underwent surgery on May 26.
