DRAFT PICK:
Lester Hudson, G, 6-3, Tennessee-Martin (second round, No. 58 overall) -- Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in his junior and senior years. Set conference scoring record in senior year. Second in the nation (27.5 ppg) behind Stephen Curry. There have been comparisons to Eddie House, but the Celtics think he can handle the ball much better and, thus, play the point. They had him rated much higher than this spot. FREE AGENT FOCUS: The Celts will tender Glen Davis the qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent. The club will hope no other team steps up with a big offer.
In that Leon Powe won't be able to play until next All-Star break at the earliest (ACL surgery), the Celts might take their chances and let him become an unrestricted free agent.
The C's have interest in bringing Stephon Marbury back, but he wants bigger money and a bigger role.
Mikki Moore's second go-round in Boston appears over.
PLAYER NEWS:
--F Kevin Garnett has returned to California to continue his rehab from right knee surgery. Asked when Garnett will be able to take the court, Danny Ainge said, "I don't have that date. (He) should be 100 percent by the time we start training camp."
--G J.R. Giddens has been working out at the Celtics' practice facility. He was around to watch potential draftees and rookie free agents work out and essentially audition for his job.
--G Ray Allen has been working out and playing in celebrity golf pro-ams. He said he is unconcerned about his name being raised in trade rumors, but added that he hopes he gets to finish his career as a Celtic.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--F Leon Powe (left ACL surgery) will continue to rehab with the Celtics unless they elect to let him be an unrestricted free agent.
--F Kevin Garnett (sore right knee) had successful surgery on his right knee on May 28. He is expected to be ready to play well before training camp.
