Engineers sweep to pair of wins

The WPI women's volleyball team posted straight-set victories over Daniel Webster and host Anna Maria. Bailey Sarber (11 kills, 6 digs) and Becca Holmberg (7 kills, 7 digs) led the Engineers over the AmCats, 25-14, 25-15, 25-16, with Sandy Acosta pitching in seven kills and three digs and Alicia Bonneau 12 assists for Anna Maria. Holberg (4 kills, 10 digs), Sarber (17 kills, 8 digs) and Joan Porambo (15 digs, 11 assists) shined for WPI (14-2) in the sweep over the Eagles, 25-22, 25-17, 25-14.

Freshman midfielder Tom Carroll scored 1:24 into overtime to lift Assumption to a 1-0 home win over Northeast-10 foe Saint Michael's. Steve Blaisdell assisted on the goal, while junior goalkeeper Brandan Sullivan made four saves to post his fourth shutout for the Greyhounds (7-2, 4-1).

Award honors Celtics' Lacerte

The National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association is naming an award after longtime Boston Celtics trainer Ed Lacerte and giving the first one to him. The Ed Lacerte Service Award will be given to a member of the NBATA by the chairman every two years. Lacerte is heading into his 23rd season with the Celtics , the longest-serving athletic trainer in franchise history. NBATA chairman Wally Blase called him "the model example of what our organization has strived to portray."
